The story begins back in 1888 when William Tinsley Tyrer was to start something quite special…. he had fifty pounds in his pocket and with a box of men’s footwear, given to him by a friend, he set to selling them from the front room of his own home, his small business prospered from the start and it was not long before William bought his first single shop (No. 12 Liverpool Road) and it was here that ‘Tyrers’ opened its new shop doors selling menswear to the town’s folk of St. Helens.
Now owned and looked after by Ali Tyrer (4th generation of the Tyrer family) the business has become a well-known and loved ‘centre piece’ for the Town of St. Helens and since moving to bigger premises in 1960, it has evolved over the years to become what is now a vibrant and contemporary ‘Boutique Department Store’ for both men and women. Its well-kept and gracious interior extends over five floors and as you would expect, is complemented by a friendly and knowledgeable team who are keen to keep up that special touch of traditional service.
